MOORESTOWN ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

The Moorestown Rotary Breakfast Club donated five $4,000 scholarships to Moorestown High School graduates, totaling $20,000 in scholarships. The recipients include Bryan Wright Jr. who will attend the University of Tampa; Maxwell Young, who will attend Stockton University; Tjjani Bullock, Temple University; Mary Lower, Rowan College of Burlington County; and Brett Seifried, who will attend Penn State University.

Munjal was named the Lenape High School valedictorian for the Class of 2016, while Hussein was named salutatorian. The two both made speeches at their commencement in front of their entire class. Munjal will attend the University of Pennsylvania in the fall while Hussein will move on to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Bunn was named the past president of the American Institute of Architects-New Jersey chapter. The organization works to provide developmental architectural resources to the state, working with residents and businesses across the area. She was honored at a recent gala and award ceremony and served as president for the past year.

Members of the Lenape NHS recently presented a check for $2,000 to Spirit of the Holidays, a nonprofit that works to provide holiday cheer to families in South Jersey living with HIV/AIDS. The club organized their annual Kevin Todd Memorial Walk to raise funds, bringing out residents from across the township to participate.

South Jersey has come together to mourn the tragic death of Marlton’s Christina Grimmie. The 22-year-old singer and YouTube sensation was killed at a concert in Florida on June 11, and her international fan base has come out in support of the singer. At a vigil with 500 people held at Marlton’s Blue Barn, Grimmie’s brother Marcus said “She loved this town, this state; she loved the Lord and she loved me.” Grimmie was laid to rest in Medford and her family has set up a scholarship fund for the performing arts at Cherokee High School in her memory.

Lenape Regional Superintendent Carol Birnbohm was listed as having the 55th highest superintendent salary in the state at $177,500, according to a recent update by the Department of Education. The list looks at all 548 school districts in New Jersey.
The Lenape Regional School District has approved a $156.6 million budget for the 2016-17 school year.
Rowan College at Burlington County has approved their $40.89 million budget for 2016-17, which will keep the tuition and enrollment fees for students at the same price as last year.

Nearly 14,600 in Burlington County were without power following a powerful, quick storm on June 8. The storm knocked out power for more than 40,000 South Jersey residents and businesses.
Moorestown has adopted the emergency FurAlert system. Residents can download the phone app, then post photos of found or missing pets for the Moorestown area to reference.

Moorestown police arrested a 36-yearold Delanco man accused of stealing three commercial leaf blowers from a crew of landscapers in the township, valued at $2,100.
A 25-year-old Mount Laurel woman was arrested for theft after stealing more than $15,000 in jewelry from an Evesham family that she babysat for. The robberies happened over a period of several months and the family found the woman posting images of the jewelry on social media.
Cherry Hill police are searching for a woman who allegedly stole a wallet from a customer at the Cherry Hill Target before using the victim’s wallet to spend $1,740 at Target stores in Mount Laurel and Delran.

Quimby capped her impressive season with the Lenape girls track team by taking sixth in the 1,600 meters at the Meet of Champions with a time of 5:01.58. Quimby also took fifth at states and second at sectionals in the event, and was the South Jersey Group IV champion in the 800.

The Quakers captured the South Jersey Group III title with a 12-9 victory over Clearview as Frankie Labetti scored five goals and Bryan Wright added three. Moorestown advanced to take on West Morris in a thrilling state championship game, falling just short of the fourth state crown in program history in an 8-7 game that was decided in the final seconds.

Team, player and coach news
Former Moorestown lacrosse star Mare McCool had a goal and two assists to help lead the North Carolina women’s lacrosse team to the national championship with a 13-7 win over Maryland in the final. McCool, a midfielder, finished her sophomore season with 46 goals and 17 assists.
Lenape senior pitcher Ben Rodier and sophomore second baseman Jake Topolski were both chosen to play for the Olympic/Colonial team in the Carpenter Cup, an annual all-star baseball tournament featuring teams from South Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Moorestown sophomore pitcher/outfielder Chris Baker and freshman pitcher/third baseman Brian McMonagle were also selected as part of the Burlington County squad.
The Lenape boys lacrosse team reached the sectional final for the third year in a row thanks to a 13-4 win over Kingsway in their semifinals. The Indians were denied their second straight title as they dropped a tough 15-13 loss to Montgomery in the final, but they finished the season with an impressive 17-2 record.
