Walk of Fame: Lou Hamou-Lhadj

by Kaytlyn Mroz

Name: Lou Hamou-Lhadj
Age: 30
Hometown: Washington Township
Talent: Animation

Hamou-Lhadj has made South Jersey proud by being one of the Oscar-nominated writers and directors of the short film Borrowed Time—a story about a weathered sheriff who is dealing with a mistake he made in the past. The Pixar technical director is originally from Louisiana, but moved to New Jersey at a very young age.

Growing up in Washington Township, Hamou-Lhadj started to hone in on his animation skills by taking an array of art courses. In December 2015, he visited his alma mater, Washington Township High School, and had the opportunity to share stories with Kirsten Smith’s animation class.

Although Borrowed Time did not ultimately win the Oscar for “Best Animated Short,” the cheers from South Jersey— specifically Washington Township—could surely be heard all the way in Hollywood.
