The Skin You’re In
If you’re looking for new ways to spruce up your summer body, these professionals provide their best techniques that can give you a new and improved look.

by Lauren Kubiak

It’s easy to stay cooped up in the house all winter long, especially when the brunt of winter hits. But the weather is starting to warm up, so it’s time to leave your favorite spot on the couch to make trips to the beach or plan outdoor activities. With that comes shorts and shorter sleeves and we all want to make sure our bodies are in tip-top shape when the summer months roll around. Now is the best time to start thinking about your future beach outing and give your body a refreshed appearance.

There are many ways you can spruce up your look and feel better without hitting the gym. From skin care to body sculpting to getting a massage, these beauty services are sure to have you looking and feeling great—and there’s no better time than now to focus on your beauty routine.

At Skintegrity, the estheticians provide excellent skin care such as facials that show you real results. The staff understands your skin care needs change from season to season (using heavier creams in the winter and rich milky cleansers in the spring and summer) and offer services that can cleanse, exfoliate and transform your skin.

“After the colder months, our skin is beat up from staying inside with the heat pumping into our skin which dries it out,” says Kate Filiberto, Skintegrity owner. “As we head into the warmer months, I recommend an exfoliation treatment to shed the dead, dry skin and get expert advice on which products suit your specific skin for the change of season. We offer microdermabrasion (physical exfoliation) and a range of peels (chemical exfoliation).”

Kelly Gehin-Scott at Lumiere Pure Body Med Spa agrees that spring is a time for renewal and it’s why the aesthetics team loves this season. The spa offers clients a full range of services from hydrafacials and skin peels to Botox and Cellutone cellulite treatments.

“After long winters in the Northeast our skin and body need revitalization. Our clinical face treatments are an excellent way to refresh, rewind and rejuvenate skin texture,” Gehin-Scott says. “Our numerous body contouring and fat reduction services greatly assist in shedding those pesky winter pounds. At Lumiere we make staying beautiful affordable.”

Le Paradis Day Spa leaves its clients refreshed all year round but is now offering a service specifically for spring. “We are offering our sweet orange aromatherapy massage that is very refreshing for the mind, body and spirit,” says Charlotte Hall at Le Paradis Day Spa. “Clients will rise from their treatment and leave the spa definitely feeling and looking refreshed.”

Because of the turn of the season, Hall mentions our energy needs to mimic the renewal of flowers and trees when winter ends. The massage, body treatments and essential oils assist clients in taking the step to feel revitalized.

Cosmetic Surgery Center of Cherry Hill recognizes the importance of applying sunscreen every day when outdoors to steer clear of sunburn and further sun damage. And when you are looking for that spring glow, the HydraFacial is the  go-to facial.

“The HydraFacial is designed to work deep into the skin and on the outer surface. It gently sucks away layers of dead skin cells and debris that dull your skin,” says Kara Lyons, medical aesthetician at Cosmetic Surgery Center of Cherry Hill. “It infuses specialty formulated  serums into your skin that are specialty formulated to meet your skin care concerns and needs. The HydraFacial leaves your skin instantly feeling hydrated, plumped and radiant.” And if you’re looking for more than a massage or facial, Botox and dermal fillers can rid your skin of wrinkles and other damage done by the sun. Dr. Ahkiah Sekhon at Precision Facial Esthetics says advanced facial rejuvenation helps patients attain a vivacious glow that could have been hidden for a few years.

“Today, patients can skip the knife and still achieve amazing natural results. You wouldn't trade a lifetime of laughter and smiling for a wrinkle-free face,” Sekhon says. “Botox and dermal filler injections are quick procedures that require no down time. They’re perfect for busy patients who may be seeking a more youthful appearance or a reprieve from the debilitating pain associated with chronic migraines. The range of applications for these products is so vast now. TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders, smile lines, crow’s  feet and much more can be addressed with ease.”

Malik Medical Aesthetics offers a few different procedures clients can use to feel as good as new. Doctors and estheticians find the VelaShape III to be among the favorite at the practice for creating a refreshed look. It’s a non-invasive body contouring treatment that gives a circumferential reduction while also reducing cellulite.

“The treatment is a combination of infrared, vacuum and radio frequency. The combination of these three modalities is what makes this treatment so amazing and effective,” says Dr. Pooja Malik at Malik Medical Aesthetics. “You can complete the treatment in three easy sessions, or if you prefer there is another option of a one-time treatment. One of the best parts of VelaShape III is that you can treat more than just the thighs. You can treat the arms, the abdomen, the buttocks, the neck and more. You can even do the treatment on your lunch time.”

The Warmuth Institute of Dermatology offers body contouring methods such as CoolSculpting, Ultrashape and VelaShape III as well as the latest cosmetic modalities.

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment that uses cooling technology to eliminate stubborn fat. The 90 days following treatment, the body processes dead fat cells for a new and improved you. Another method Warmuth Institute of Dermatology uses to eliminate fat cells is the Ultrashape, which uses ultrasound technology and can rid fat in as little as three sessions.

The practice has also introduced cosmetic procedures ranging from eyelash extensions, eyelash lifts and eyelash tints. Extensions are “semi-permanent enhancements in which one synthetic lash is individually applied to one of your natural lashes” that can be as natural or as full as the client likes, says Dr. Ingrid Warmuth at Warmuth Institite of Dermatology.

“Eyelash lift is a semi-permanent treatment since it is essentially a perm for your lashes,” Warmuth says. “This procedure lifts and curls your lashes giving it an upward shape with a flattering curl. “The eyelash tint deepens the color of lashes and brows by adding a special dye, and it can also be added to the eyelash lift treatment for a more dramatic effect. This is a great option for patients who have sensitive skin and adhesive allergies and cannot receive eyelash extensions,” she continues. “All three modalities are completed by skin care experts in a serene environment and offer a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the process of having your optimal treatment performed.”

When it comes to taking a trip to the salon for an updated hairstyle, Personal Expressions Hair Studio will bring out  the best in your hair. Personal Expressions specializes in the DEVA styling technique—a certified technique used for curly textured hair—using organic hair coloring and hair loss remedies. But when it comes to adding life to your hair for the spring, sometimes it’s as simple as adding a few highlights around the face, also known as face-framing.

“Winter (especially the end of the sea- son) can make us feel particularly dark and drab,” says salon owner Diane Hazelwood. “Adding a few highlights to your spring routine helps not only to bring out your eyes, it also brightens up  the skin tone. It’s the perfect complement to the bright and airy vibe spring provides.”
