Second-grade student Danny Chelston is the Bells Elementary School January Accelerated Reader of the Month. The reader of the month uses the school-based Accelerated Reader program, which tracks a student’s reading progress and evaluates comprehension skills. Chelston was awarded a certificate and a Barnes and Noble gift card.

Peter David
Moorestown
Our Lady of Good Counsel School sixth-grade student Peter David was awarded a first-tier winner’s certificate at the fourth annual piano technique competition run by the South Jersey Music Teachers’ Association. David also won the school’s recent spelling bee, beating 24 students in grades five through eight.

Gabriella Linden
Washington Township
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School third-grade student Gabriella Linden was honored by the Washington Township Board of Education for participating in the 100-Book Challenge. Linden completed 300 books.

Anna Kim & Arthur Jones
Marlton
Cherokee High School students Anna Kim and Arthur Jones participated in the Future Business Leader Association’s Regional Competitive Events. Anna Kim took first place for Business Communication, and Arthur Jones received first place in Technology Concepts. They will compete in the State Leadership Conference in March.

Evan Kilgore
Mount Laurel
Evan Kilgore, a senior at Lenape High School, has been a member of the marching band since 2007. He performed on the alto saxophone for the 2010 All State Jazz Band and has been inducted into the 2011 All-South Jersey Wind Ensemble and 2011 All-State Wind Ensemble.

Danny Gallagher
Mount Laurel
Second-grade Parkway Elementary School student Danny Gallagher was recognized as Parkway’s grand prize winner in the Mount Laurel Fire Department’s “Get Fired Up for Literacy” contest. This year, 146 students participated with a total of 80,645 minutes read. Gallagher read a total of 17 hours and 28 minutes within the two-week time period.

Jesse Na
Marlton
Jesse Na, an eighth-grade student at DeMasi Middle School, was selected to participate in the All-South Jersey Junior High Orchestra. Na is the concertmaster for the DeMasi Middle School Orchestra and this is the third year she has been selected for the All-South Jersey Orchestra.

Iman Khan
Moorestown
Eighth-grade student Iman Khan of William Allen Middle School took first place in a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, in the literary and video division for her original poem and essay. The annual competition, sponsored by Princeton University, invites New Jersey students in grades four through 12 to enter a poster, video or essay honoring King’s life.

Daniel Jang and Nicole Rosselli
Cherry Hill
Auditioning against more than 100 middle school string players, Daniel Jang and Nicole Rosselli of the Rosa International Middle School Orchestra were accepted into the 2011 All-South Jersey Junior High School Orchestra.

Jacklyn Pezzato
Medford
Jacklyn Pezzato, a sophomore, was honored as Shawnee High School student of the month. She is a sophomore captain for Blue and White night and a member of the Deborah Heart Challenge Academic Team, and she spends her time volunteering at the Voorhees Pediatric Rehabilitation Center.

Brigid Connell
Haddonfield
Senior Haddonfield Memorial High School student Brigid Connell convinced borough commissioners to pass a resolution making Haddonfield part of the Sustainable Jersey Municipal Certification program. Connell worked hard with borough officials to implement efficiency measures that earned the borough Bronze status as recognition for the initiatives.

Darius Black
Voorhees
Sixth-grade student Darius Black, a second-honors student at Voorhees Middle School and an accomplished dancer, performed the role of the Little Prince for the last two years in the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Nutcracker.
