Creating Awareness
Haddonfield Memorial High School students (pictured) help to mark New Jersey’s first Teen Cancer Awareness week at the Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation. Students joined together to make more than 250 bandana pillows and “teen kits” for young kids all over the country who are battling cancer.

Giving Back
While many students enjoyed the day off for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, the boys’ and girls’ basketball team of Beck Middle School volunteered their free time for the fourth year, and visited the Lions Gate Continuing Care Retirement Community, where they interacted with residents and recited Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

With Honors
Students at Whitman Elementary School in Washington Township honored Private First Class John Jackson-Whaley, when he visited his son Jaden’s first-grade classroom during his brief leave from Iraq. The students read letters of appreciation and talked with the soldier about his experiences.

Warm Hearts
Fifth-grade students at J. Harold Van Zant School in Marlton stayed after school on Friday afternoons to make blankets for the Medically Necessary Pediatric Day Care Facility, part of the Weisman Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Marlton.

On With the Show
When third-grade student Joey Degnan, who has leukemia, could no longer attend school, the fifth-graders at Birches Elementary School in Washington Township sent Degnan a DVD of entertaining performances they produced and acted out just for him.
