BISHOP EUSTACE CRUSADERS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: The Crusaders have a strong core returning from a 20-3 team that won the Group 2 state championship and shared the Olympic Conference National Division title with Camden Catholic. Junior goalie Alex Pecora, junior midfielder Montana Fleming and senior back Allesandra Farnesi were first-team all-conference selections. Junior forward Kelly Quinn and sophomore midfielder Sarah Furey were second-team choices. Other returning starters are seniors Gabby Latorre and Nicole Langford and sophomore Eileen Dwzill. Adding depth are four returning senior letter winners: Allie Canal, Bria Kazmierski, Nicole Scarmella and Eileen Walsh.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Another battle with Camden Catholic is likely.

OUTLOOK: The Crusaders are likely to hold fast with their state title. Coach Krissy Holak, who has won several Coach of the Year honors, has this program running on a high level with no letdown in sight.

CAMDEN CATHOLIC FIGHTING IRISH

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Sophomore Tara Vittese had 25 goals and 10 assists in earning first-team all-conference honors. Also named to the first-team all-Olympic National Division squad were senior midfielder Danielle Frasca, who holds eight goals and three assists, and senior back Jen Varallo. Among the many returning letter winners are senior forwards Ali Murray and Kaitlyn Razzi; junior forwards Mary Duffin and Mariah Thomas; junior backs Katie Lenguadoro, Michelle Onofrio and Karlee Kerchersky; and goalies Isabella Dolente and Shea Vallen. A newcomer to watch is sophomore midfielder Alyssa Olenick, a transfer from Cherry Hill East.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: A rivalry resumes. Camden Catholic is likely to battle with Bishop Eustace for the Olympic Conference National Division title.

OUTLOOK: The Irish had some key losses to graduation, but should still have a strong team this year.

CHEROKEE CHIEFS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: : Junior midfielder Lauren Thomas was a first-team all-conference choice. Other returning starters are junior midfielder Brooke Hunt, senior backs Rachel Lombardi and Emily Van Horn, and senior forward Michelle Gonzales. Senior forward Alexa Chiarelli is a returning letter winner. Watch out for sophomore forward Michaela Horner and three junior defenders: Michelle Tegethoff, Shelby Rohrer and Jessica Woodard.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: The Chiefs are in the same division as Eastern and Washington Township, two of the best programs in the state.

OUTLOOK: After an 8-9 season last year the Chiefs hope to reach or beat the .500 mark. It won’t be easy with such a demanding schedule, but Cherokee will be a very competitive team.

CHERRY HILL EAST COUGARS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior goalie Blaire Janney is a third-year starter who earned second-team all-conference honors. Dailyn Brook, a senior midfielder, is a fourth- year starter who also earned second-team honors. Other letter winners include senior back Madi Schwartz, senior back Rebecca Taub, junior forward Stephanie Berman and junior midfielders Jordan Coleman and Taylor Janney. Two sophomores who played on the freshman team and look to contribute are midfielder Megan Martin and sweeper Alisa Verratti.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Olympic American defending champion Eastern.

OUTLOOK: The Cougars suffered major losses to graduation from a 5-9-1 team, but coach Beth Scharff is excited about the combination of senior leadership and young players.

CHERRY HILL WEST LIONS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Returning senior starters include back Grace MacDonald, midfielder Jess Bardolf and forward Toni Amato. Also back is junior goalie Katie Lass. Key returning letter winners include senior forward Tess Banecker, junior forwards Kellie Brining and Caitlin Sablich, junior defender Casey Diaz, sophomore forwards Jamie Robertson and Katie Stetser and sophomore back Laura Giordano.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Shawnee is the defending champion in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division and once again the team to beat.

OUTLOOK: The Lions graduated nine seniors from a 6-10-2 team so they could be in a rebuilding situation. If they can match last year’s win total, they could count it a successful season.

EASTERN VIKINGS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior Alana Barry was a consensus all-South Jersey goalie. Joining Barry on the first-team all-conference squad were junior midfielder Carly Celkos, with 19 goals, sophomore forward Jade Dixon, with 30 goals, and senior back Julia Osisek with 11 goals. Second-team choices were junior midfielder Stephanie Byrne and junior defender Erin Hoag. Sophomore Kasey Moreno scored 15 goals, while junior forward Emma Johannson added 13.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Washington Township will be a challenger in the Olympic American and South Jersey Group 4. Shawnee will also be a Group 4 threat.

OUTLOOK: The Vikings are the 12-time defending state Group 4 champions. Coach Danyle Heilig’s team will also make a serious run at the No. 1 slot in the state.

GLOUCESTER CATHOLIC RAMS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: The Rams return several veterans from the senior and junior class. The returning seniors include forwards Nicole Iacovone, Elizabeth Heverly, Rachel Barlage and Carly Lundstrom, midfielders Amy Robinson and Danielle Pitt and defenders Kate Valansky, Taylor Burns and Catherine Driscoll. Among returning juniors for coach Pam Leonhardt are forwards Amy Kohout, Angie Itaas, goalie Elizabeth Priest and defenders Cara McHenry, Francesca Defelice, Cassie Bonner and Bridget Bonner.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Woodstown and Glassboro shared the Tri-County Diamond Division title and both expect to contend again.

OUTLOOK: The Rams won seven games last year and the expectation includes improving the win total and getting at least to the .500 level.

HADDONFIELD BULLDOGS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior forward Carolynn Clark and senior midfielder Megan Johnston were first-team all-conference choices, with 31 goals between them. Other starters returning this season are senior back Tara Black and senior forward Christine Wolf. Returning letter winners include senior goalie Maura Trotman, junior forward-midfielder Cat Thomas and junior forward Maddie Betley.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Last year Haddonfield shared the Colonial Conference Liberty Division title with West Deptford and then beat the Eagles in the South Jersey Group 2 final. Once again, West Deptford and Haddonfield should battle for both titles.

OUTLOOK: Haddonfield has won two sectional titles in the last three years and despite some key losses to graduation, coach Lindsay Kocher should lead a strong team—one that could match or surpass last year’s 19-5 record.

LENAPE INDIANS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: The strength of coach Sarah Moretti’s team is an experienced senior class. Katie McGee will be a third-year starting forward. Tara Dunning, Paris Atabek and Katie Williamson are all second-year starting midfielders. Former field player Zoey Atabek provides a stabilizing force in goal. Senior Kelsey Knowles is a key returning letter winner.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Eastern will likely again be the preseason No. 1 team in the area.

OUTLOOK: The Indians were 9-9 last season, while competing in South Jersey’s toughest division, the Olympic American. The win total could be improved, but unseating Eastern will be a difficult task. A true bright spot is the fact that Dunning, who was forced to end her season early due to shoulder surgery, is healed and looks forward to picking up where she left off.

MOORESTOWN QUAKERS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior midfielder Elizabeth Johnson and junior midfielder Mary Flick were second-team all-conference choices. This year’s starters include senior forward Paige Macrae, senior back Katie Monaghan, junior forward Sarah Powell, senior midfielder Cally Dougherty and sophomore back Alexa Massa. A key returning letter winner is senior back Laura Hyder.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Moorestown and Rancocas Valley shared the Burlington County Liberty Division title, and those two appear to be the top teams again.

OUTLOOK: The Quakers won 16 games last year, and should surface as a sectional title contender.

MOORESTOWN FRIENDS FOXES

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior forward Laura Bader and senior midfielder Lara Savon were first-team all-Friends League choices, while senior back Kate Seigeltuch was an honorable mention selection. Savon had 17 goals and nine assists. Other returning senior starters are back Eva Gelernt and forward Katherine Churchill.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: The Foxes are coming off an excellent season, going 11-5-2 and finishing second to Shipley in the Friends League championship. Once again, Shipley enters as the team to beat.

OUTLOOK: While it’s not the favorite, Moorestown Friends will make a run at the division title.

PAUL VI EAGLES

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Among the returning veterans are seniors Becky Gilbert, Meg O’Leary and Sara Monostra, junior Meredith Stocklin and sophomore Emily McNeill.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Defending co-champions Bishop Eustace and Camden Catholic remain the teams to beat in the Olympic Conference National Division.

OUTLOOK: The Eagles won five games last season, and a viable goal would be to improve the win total.

SENECA GOLDEN EAGLES

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior back Brittany Moody was a first-team all-conference choice, while senior goalie Katie DiCarlo and senior midfielder-forward Alyssa Stillwell were second-team selections. Other starters returning to the field include junior midfielder-sweeper Sarah Regan, junior back Samantha Ricca, senior forward Ilana Feldscher and senior back Gabrielle Rote. Junior midfielder-back Kalyn O’Brien became a starter later in the year and provides great versatility. Junior Carly McCausland was a key contributor last season, despite missing several games due to injury. Other key returning players are senior forwards Claire Wassall and Erica Light. Two juniors who performed on JV and add depth are forward Jessica Sulewski and goalie Megan McLaughlin.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Bishop Eustace and Camden Catholic were co-champions in the Olympic National, and remain the teams to beat.

OUTLOOK: After a 7-11 record in coach Julie Smith’s first season as head coach, the Golden Eagles have the experience to produce a winning season. Seneca can’t be discounted as a potential contender in the National Division.

SHAWNEE RENEGADES

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior midfielder Emily Arnot, who had seven goals last season, has already made a commitment to the University of Delaware. Senior forward Nicole Troost scored 19 goals last year. Senior forwards Victoria Radwell and Jenna Pressler each had nine goals, while classmate Abby Watson added seven. Among the other returning veterans are junior goalie Elina Pereira and junior back Marissa Cutry.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: The Renegades are the favorites to defend their Olympic Conference Patriot Division title. The biggest obstacle is expected to surface in the Group 4 playoffs, where 12-time defending state champion Eastern remains a formidable opponent.

OUTLOOK: The Renegades should start the season as one of the five top-rated teams in the area. This is an experienced group, with the ability to win a state title, although they’ll need to go through Eastern first

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP MINUTEMAIDS

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior midfielder Kaitlyn Grabert was a first-team all-conference selection. Classmate Keli Margiotta was a second-team choice after earning 23 goals and 12 assists. Senior back Nicole Tiernan was also a second-team choice. Other returning starters are junior forwards Devin Muracco and Jill Wanielsta, senior forward Megan Tiernan, senior midfielder-back Christina Brennan, senior midfield-forward Taylor Miller and senior back Molly Molnar.

BIGGEST COMPETITION: Who but Eastern? Nobody battled Eastern as hard as the Minutemaids, who lost three one-goal decisions to the Vikings.

OUTLOOK: With an experienced team, the Minutemaids could be ranked in the top five.
