Moorestown Friends School history teachers Thomson and Van Tijn were the coaching duo behind a team of students that qualified for the National History Bowl in Washington D.C. The team beat out competition during the Feb. 24 New Jersey History Bowl at Princeton University.

Linda Zeck
Washington Township
Third grade teacher Linda Zeck was honored as Birches Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. She will be recognized at a ceremony on April 24.

Pamela Tosto
Marlton
Holy Cross High School’s Tosto is celebrating 35 years of service with the Diocese of Trenton and Holy Cross High School. Tosto is currently serving as the World Language Department chair and was recently recognized by the school for her milestone year.

Patricia Shaw
Washington Township
Shaw, the school nurse at Bells Elementary, was named Teacher of the Year for her school. Shaw has been teaching at Bells for nearly two decades. She, among other educators from the district, will be officially recognized at the April Board of Education meeting.

Neil Hartman
Moorestown
Hartman’s influence as an educator will now be permanently remembered at Moorestown Friends School, as a new classroom was dedicated in his name by the Moorestown Friends School Committee. Hartman taught at Friends school for 33 years.

Linda Hammond
Mount Laurel
Hammond, an English teacher at Lenape High School, will open the curtains on her 40th Lenape musical production this spring. She is currently directing The Wizard of Oz in the school’s new auditorium, and is already planning a large-scale production of Legally Blonde for next spring.

Greg Bauer
Tabernacle
Seneca High School named Bauer as the 2012 Teacher of the Year. Bauer is an environmental earth science teacher who has been with Seneca since the school opened nine years ago. He also coaches wrestling.

Noreen Saggese
Voorhees
Saggese, a sixth-grade teacher at Voorhees Middle School, organized the school’s second basketball shoot-off charity fundraiser. Benefitting Pennies in Action, students paid a $1 shot to help the organization, which conducts research for life-saving vaccines. This year’s event raised more than $2,000.

Tammy Habina
Cherry Hill
Habina, of Sharp Elementary School, developed the educational “Sizzling Science Day,” held early this month, where elementary students had the opportunity to conduct experiments using the scientific method, see demonstrations and get hands-on learning experience. The event, which precedes the March 22 Science Fair, sought to get students excited about science and make the subject less intimidating.

Teresa Haney
Collingswood
Haney, a biology instructor in the Division of Mathematics, Science and Health Careers at Camden County College, was awarded an Adjunct Teaching Excellence Award for 2012. Haney has taught at CCC for 11 years.

Patti McBride
Sicklerville
Ann A. Mullen Middle School’s Patti McBride was recently named the Camden County Teacher of the Year, selected by a panel of county administrators, teachers, parents and education association representatives. McBride, a communications technology teacher, has been teaching at Mullen since 1996 and is in her 25th year as an educator.

Carolyn Adragna
Mount Laurel
Harrington Middle School teacher Adragna organized the Odyssey of the Mind regional competition at the Mount Laurel school. Individual Harrington students won first-, second- and third-place awards at last year’s event, and third and sixth at the state competition, part of an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.

Haddonfield
The Central School’s gym teacher has created a Haddonfield technology fund using an art sponsorship project called “Dawg Daze.” Donations will sponsor two life-size bulldog statues to be painted. One statue will be displayed on Kings Highway while the other will be awarded in an auction.
