Marlton Boys’ Basketball Team (pictured)

The boys of the 7th grade basketball team are the 2012 South Jersey Basketball Champions after defeating Washington Township in a championship game at Cherokee High School. Marlton’s team is led by head coach Rob LaScala and assistant coach John Brandt.

Shawnee Girls’ Lacrosse
Medford
This team decided to give back and dedicate their efforts to fundraising for multiple sclerosis this season. They collected $1,500 from fundraising efforts, which will be donated to research charities, and also participated in the MS Walk in Medford Lakes on May 6.

Haddonfield High School Crew
Haddonfield
The school won two gold medals at the Cooper Cup regatta on Cooper River, racing six boats against competitors from 63 other schools and clubs. The Women’s Novice 4 boat won the gold, as well as the Men’s JV 8 boat; on the women’s boat were Mari Danella-Mercanti, Emily Stasi, Emily Deluzio, Allison Sparrow and Lisa Kommedal (coxswain), and the men’s boat had Christian Dobush, Nick Ruggeiro, Jonathan Dye, Nick Gangemi, Tom Kelly, Louis Epstein, Patrick Gilmartin, Paul Hurd and Cami Dews (coxswain).

Harrington Odyssey of the Mind

After winning first place in the state’s Odyssey of the Mind finals in April, the Harrington Middle School Odyssey team advanced to the international competition this month. Out of three Harrington teams at the state level, coached by teacher Carolyn Adragna, the school took home first, third and fifth place. Odyssey is an international educational competition focused on creative problem solving.

Bishop Eustace Crew
Pennsauken
The Bishop Eustace Preparatory School crew team placed first at two separate regattas on the Cooper River. The school entered seven boats in the Garden State Scholastic Championships and all of them made it to the finals. Additionally, the Girls Varsity 8 boat, led by head women’s coach Francesca Crozier–Fitzgerald, took first place in both the Garden State Championships and the Cooper Cup.

Minutemen Boys’ Track
Washington Township
The Washington Township High School boys’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Larry Floyd, Tyler Stumm, Jordan Ashley and AJ Ashton captured the championship at the recent New York Relays with a time of 62.36 seconds. The relay combination of Drew Balkenhol, Drew O’Neill, AJ Ashton and Mike Lobban captured the 4x100-meter championship in a school-record win of 43.08 seconds.

Moorestown High School Girls’ Golf
Moorestown
The girls’ golf team sent three players to the Red Devil Girls’ Golf Invitational at Copper Hill Country Club on April 16, which consisted of 92 female high school golfers from across the state. Junior Allison Lin led the team with a score of 90, while senior Sarah Jordan scored 101 and freshman Aine Filler scored 107.

Minutemen Baseball
Washington Township
The Minutemen boys’ baseball team is now ranked 25th in the nation, their first national ranking since 1994. Coached by Bill Alvaro Jr., the team has enjoyed a winning season, including a recent 13-0 victory over Lenape.

MFS Consumer Bowl Team
Moorestown
Moorestown Friends School’s Consumer Bowl team won the N.J. Southern Regional Competition at Burlington County College. The team is made up of junior Trinh Son, sophomore Kirsten Mullen, junior Spencer Bard and junior Aviana Duca, with advisor Dr. Barbara Kreider.

Beck Science Team
Cherry Hill
The Beck Middle School science team was recognized in April by the the board of education for their success at the N.J. Science Olympiad competition at the end of March. The team won first place in two categories and second place in three categories, covering topics like anatomy, food science, and rocks and minerals.

Cherry Hill East Relay
Cherry Hill
The 4x400 boys’ relay team won the South Jersey “Big School” championships in the Penn Relays at Franklin Field with a time of 3:20.07.

Eastern Marching Band
Voorhees
The Eastern Marching Vikings were named 2012 Best of South Jersey “Best High School Band” in April. The competitive marching band, which frequently attends local and regional competitions, is led by advisor John Stanz.
