Cherokee High School’s Lacy broke a meet record in the 1,600 meter event at the Burlington County Open—one that hadn’t been broken since 1986. Lacy won with a time of 5:03.70, and also won the 3,200 meter with a time of 11:00.33. Her wins assisted her team to win the overall team title over Lenape High School.

Spencer Cook

Cook, an eighth-grade student from Washington Township, took home first place at the New Jersey State Council Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. He earned first place at the local, district and regional championships and took home the state title after netting 20 out of 25 shots.

Paige Rhoads
Marlton
This 11-year-old gymnast broke a state record for floor at the New Jersey State Championships this year. With a score of 9.775, she dominated the floor category of the competition and finished in fourth place overall for Level 8, qualifying her for a spot on the New Jersey Regionals team. She trains at Will-Moor School of Gymnastics in Mount Laurel.

Liza Barr
Medford
Barr, an eighth-grade student at Medford Memorial Middle School, was chosen as one of just 160 athletes nationwide to be a 2012 Brine National All-Star. She will represent the Northeast in the 2012 Brine National All-Star Lacrosse Academy and National Lacrosse Classic in July.

Evann Thompson
Mount Laurel
Thompson, a member of the Lenape High School girls’ track team, won the Group IV State Title in the 400 intermediate hurdles. She established a new school record with a time of 62.29, which is also one of the top five times in the state. She is one of four girls in school history to win a girls’ outdoor state track title.

Owen Demmerly
Medford
Demmerly was the first Shawnee High School male lacrosse player to net 200 goals. His milestone came in the third quarter of the State Group 3 tournament game against Kingsway last month. The only thing better than goal 200 was that he added No. 201 shortly after.

Katie Johnston
Haddonfield
Senior Johnston captured individual state titles in two events at NJSIAA State Group 2 Track and Field Championships at South Plainfield, while setting personal bests too: discus of 131-8 and javelin 152-9. Her javelin score also set a meet record that day.

Harry Brakewood and Erin Knabe
Voorhees
Brakewood and Knabe both earned gold medals at the NJSIAA Group 2 Track and Field Championships. Brakewood also became the school’s first male athlete to win a state title after he placed first in the 3,200-meter in a time of 9:25.44.

Alex Reber
Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill East senior Reber won the 200 meter in 21.64 seconds, the 400 meter in 47.96, and the 400 hurdles in 53.78. He also anchored the 4x400 relay to help the Cougars win the South Jersey Group 4 title in May.

Mary Quien
Moorestown
This Moorestown Township High School graduate was named a member of the All-East Team for her varsity performance in compound archery at Columbia University. Athletes are invited to join the team based on a combination of scores from three of four major tournaments during the season; Quien finished as the school’s top compound archer this year and fifth in the region.

Nadiir King
Washington Township
Chestnut Ridge Middle School sixth-grader Nadiir King won the 400-meter event at Middle School Fitness Challenge Day, competing against athletes from the district’s three middle schools. The students took part in six events: the long jump; softball toss; the 50-, 100- and 400-meter runs; and the 4x200-meter relay.
