Star Athletes: October, 2012

by Editorial Staff, Suburban Family magazine

Cole Pitcher (pictured)
Moorestown
This young athlete is leading Moorestown’s 60 lbs. 5- and 6-year-old football team so far this season thanks to his recorded three touchdowns in just one game against Haddonfield earlier this month. Cole is also among the team leaders on defense for tackles as well and his coaches expect him to remain a large contributor to the team through the season.

Devin Muracco
Washington Township
Senior midfielder Muracco is more than the co-captain of Washington Township High School girls’ field hockey team. She’s also working to inspire the future generations of players by coaching middle school-aged athletes in the township’s rec league, which her father organized upon the district cutting funding for the middle school program.

Kendall Lippert
Marlton
Competing in gymnastics for eight years, seventh-grader Kendall Lippert qualified to compete in the National Junior Olympics. A member of the Jersey Jets Gymnastics Team, Lippert headed to Long Beach, Cali., finishing first in trampolining among 10 competitors during the first round and second in the subsequent round to finish with a silver medal.

Rich Barnett and Tom Wiker
Medford
Barnett and Wiker, sophomores at Shawnee High School, completed the Bike MS: City to Shore Ride 2012. On the last Saturday in September, both boys rode 75 miles to Ocean City. Together, they raised nearly $1,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Jason Garstkiewicz
Medford
Just 10 months after enduring the amputation of his right foot because of a cancerous tumor on his ankle, Garstkiewicz returned to action with a prosthetic and scored a recent goal for his Haddonfield lacrosse travel team. The eighth-grader looks to compete for a spot on Haddonfield Memorial High School’s freshman football team next fall.

Curtis Corley
Medford
The Renegade’s Corley played a big part in a 13-0 victory against Seneca recently, recording three sacks and helping keep the Golden Eagle’s rushing yards at just 21. Corley, though just a sophomore, received a varsity letter last year in both football and lacrosse, making him an athlete worth watching.

Austyn Cuneo
Voorhees
Eastern’s field hockey sophomore has branded herself as a lead goal scorer. Cuneo tied the state record last year for the most goals scored in one season with 69 goals. Now as a varsity player and only half way into the season, she scored 18 goals as of earlier this month in just eight games.

Taylor Sehdev
Haddonfield
Freshman goaltender Taylor Sehdev didn’t let the pressure get to her in her first four starts for the Haddonfield Bulldogs. Sehdev recorded a shutout in each of her starts, helping Haddonfield to a 4-0 record to start the 2012 season.

Kevin Horten
Moorestown
Horten made an impressive finish at a recent Burlington County Scholastic League Cross Country batch meet, coming in first place in the 3.1 mile course with a time of 16 minutes and 26 seconds.

Tori Prager
Mount Laurel
Prager helped the Lenape girls’ soccer team notch an important season victory in a 1-0 win over close rival Shawnee. Her overtime goal, shot from 20 yards out and less than a minute into the overtime period that followed a neck and neck game in regulation, upped their season record to 8-3.

Adam Augugliaro
Haddonfield
In a 36-7 win over Collingswood this month, Haddonfield’s Augugliaro recorded the longest rushing play in the entire Colonial-Liberty division, rushing for 70 yards and then finishing the game with 146.

Zach Steinbock
Cherry Hill
During a tight match between the struggling, unranked Cherry Hill East boys soccer team and top-ranked Washington Township, the Cougar’s Steinbock scored two goals for Cherry Hill. The team looks to the big win as a turning point for the tough season thus far.
